I don’t know about most of you, but I am totally and completely done with snow and what most of us have referred to as Snowmageddeon 2015. It has no doubt interfered with all of our training. Not that we have become stressed about it, but it’s something that we all love and enjoy and miss when we don’t get to do it. At least we have finally gotten to March. Maybe this means that we are finally done with all this white stuff and on to warmer days.
Not that we are going to let this stinking snow get us down by any means. I mean, it’s almost time for our training to start for a much anticipated powerlifting meet. So, to get us prepped Jim has started making our lifting heavier than it has been with a mini training cycle. It’s been a while since we have done heavy weight and let me tell you, it feels really good to have that heavy loaded bar on my back for some squat action.
We have also been doing a lot of upper body accessory work like dumbbell press, inverted rows, lat pull downs, and push ups. I can’t wait to get back under the bar for some heavy benching action. I have my mind set on at least a 5 pound PR.
And of course deadlift. This past week we used bands over the bar for resistance. This is supposed to help us if we have “stuck points.” This would apply heavily to me. That one spot where I “shimmy” is my sticking point, past that I’m good. It’s just getting there. These are the things I love about off season and then starting back. Working on those little things that will help make us better…stronger.
All this talk of snow reminded me of my younger years when we’d talk in grade school about March coming in like a lion. That is us for sure. So take that snow, it’s March in like a lion….so hear us roarrrrr!!
