During pregnancy, it’s important to get your leafy greens! The texture and flavor don’t make me want to eat them every day, so an easy way to get the nutrients is through a green smoothie. However, this in itself can be difficult to encourage yourself to imbibe, since it’s not the normal color of something you would drink. It took me a while to find a recipe that I liked, but I finally did! It’s really easy to make, and there’s no added sugar.
The recipe calls for a frozen banana, but I’ve found it’s just as good with a fresh one. I also upped the milk by a quarter of a cup, and I use low-pasteurized whole milk instead of almond milk. And, thanks to my creative hubby (who greeted me at the airport after my trip back north for baby showers with a yummy smoothie), I now add half of an avocado. Makes it extra nutritious and creamy! You could even add your protein powder.
I think that’s it. Check out the recipe at Our Full Plate.
