It’s the week of Christmas and I am usually overworked, stressed out, depressed and still don’t have my shopping done. Every year I say “I am not gonna let the holidays get to me!” In years past, it has never worked and I would EAT to cope. Who am I kidding? I didn’t just eat to cope with the holidays, I ate to cope with everyday life! This year I haven’t let that happen. A strange sense of positivity has come over me and I owe it to being surrounded by positive people. (My fellow MissFits and, of course, Jim and Lucy)
Focusing my attention on what I have, instead of what I don’t have has made a big difference. Let’s face it, life isn’t fair! We lose loved ones, things don’t go as planned, and the holidays end up adding to life’s disappointments. But, isn’t that what life is all about? Change? You adapt and move forward and try as best you can to stop living in the past.
This sudden epiphany is how I intend to live my life. I am in charge of what happens! It’s taken 44 years for me to stop dwelling on the past. Your past does not define you, right? I tell myself this daily! Overcoming my obstacles, I’m still fighting and I know I will win, no ifs, ands, or buts! YOU can too!
It’s called a positive attitude and sometimes it’s hard to stay in that mindset. You just have to keep chugging along. Being part of such a positive group of women who have my back when I get down on myself and encourage me constantly has given me the confidence I need to make this journey. I’m overwhelmed with excitement to share what powerlifting and my teammates have done for me in hopes that I may inspire others. Sure, do I have moments of weakness and want to quit and run away? YES!! That’s why surrounding yourself with positive people is a must!
I would encourage everyone to find “your people” and let them help you on your journey, whatever it may be! Who knows, you may be an inspiration to someone else! After all, isn’t that what this season is all about? GIVE inspiration to those who may need it by being an example and a positive influence on others. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!
Oh! I asked Santa for a 300 lb deadlift this year 🙂
